Krytox™ lubricants can withstand the high temperatures and exhaust fumes experienced by exhaust gas recirculating (EGR) valves. EGR valves reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by recirculating some exhausted gas back into engine cylinders.
If the valve does not open enough, insufficient recirculation takes place and excess pollution is created. If, however, the valve sticks open, the temperature inside the cylinder can drop too much, decreasing engine performance and fuel mileage. Both problems can be eliminated with Krytox™ lubricants.
Viscous Fan Clutch
A thermostatically controlled fan clutch typically drives the cooling fan. The bearings that support the drive shaft for this clutch regularly experience high temperatures.
When fan clutch bearings wear and begin to fail, the added resistance will cause the cooling fan to run less efficiently, draining power from the engine drive shaft. If this degradation persists, complete bearing failure will leave the cooling fan permanently engaged and result in parasitic engine power loss.
Krytox™ lubricants have low volatility and a high viscosity index, providing long-life and excellent lubrication to the fan clutch bearing under these high-temperature conditions.
The alternator is usually belt-driven by the engine, supplying electricity to basic automobile functions. As electricity is generated, the alternators—and hence the bearings—get very hot.
Standard lubricants volatilize in the alternator's extreme high-temperature environment, leading to alternator bearing failure. Today's higher output alternators generate tremendous heat, which demands the advanced, reliable performance and heat stability of Krytox™ lubricants.
Spark Plug Boots
Spark plug boots made of silicone rubber can bond with the silicone ceramic of the spark plug over time, causing the two to fuse together. If this occurs, the only way to remove the boot is by force, which could damage the assembly and require replacement. Krytox™ lubricants can prevent this fusion from taking place because they are stable, non-reactive, and long-lasting.

Electronic Parking Brake Mechanism
